NHL Starting Goalies Tonight

Who the market says is in net, what that start does to the price, and how often the market's goalie turned out to be right — from Kalshi's goalie-saves listings, the books' saves lines and the NHL's own starter flag.

Starters — October 19

How often the market's goalie was right

Each club-game is graded against the NHL boxscore starter flag where we captured it (0 so far this season). A side where a source named two goalies counts as a miss. Lead time is puck drop minus the first time the source named the eventual starter.

NHL starting goalies — frequently asked

When are NHL starting goalies confirmed?

The NHL marks the starter in its own boxscore when lineups post, about an hour before puck drop. Hours earlier, the market usually knows: Kalshi lists a goalie-saves contract for the goalie it expects to start, and the books post saves lines only for their expected starter. This page shows all three, labelled, and switches a row to "Official" once the NHL flag is in.

What does "market-confirmed" mean?

Kalshi lists a saves contract for the goalie and at least two books price a saves line for the same goalie. One source alone is "Market"; sources that disagree are a "Split".

Why does Kalshi list a saves contract for only one goalie?

A saves contract only settles sensibly on the goalie who plays, so Kalshi lists it for the goalie it expects to start. That choice is a public signal about who is in net — and it is graded here against the NHL starter flag.

How much does the starting goalie move the price?

On a full season of starts our fitted goalie factors run from about 0.92 to 1.06 — goals allowed against expected. Swapping a top starter for his backup can move a league-average game by up to 4–5 points on the moneyline and a quarter of a goal on the total. Where the model sees an unconfirmed crease, the row shows both prices.

What is a split?

The market sources name different goalies — for example Kalshi lists one goalie while the books price the other. We show both names and the price swing, and make no call on who starts.

Do back-to-backs change who starts?

Often. Clubs commonly start the backup on the second night of a back-to-back, which is why the B2B tag sits next to the team and why the market's goalie can arrive later on those nights.

How often is the market's goalie right?

Kalshi: no graded starts yet. The books: no graded starts yet. Graded against the NHL starter flag on every game where it was captured this season (0 club-games so far).
