What is Novig?
Novig is a sports-only, CFTC-designated exchange. An NHL contract pays $1 if its team wins (overtime and shootout included on the moneyline), and the price is where a buyer and a seller meet. Every resting order is cleared when a game goes live, so the pregame price and the in-game price are two separate books.

Is it legal? How it works
Novig has operated as a CFTC-designated contract market since August 4, 2026 — the same federal status Kalshi holds — so its NHL contracts are regulated event contracts, not state-licensed sports betting. It is 21+ and live in most states; the app confirms yours at sign-up.
How it compares to Kalshi
Kalshi prices the NHL board our Goal Light model reads, and it lists far more than hockey. Novig is narrower and charges nothing on a pregame trade, so on a game where both list the same side at the same price, Novig is cheaper by Kalshi’s fee. Novig charges no fee on pregame game trades. Taker fills placed while a game is live pay a small fee (it peaks at 50¢ prices), and NFL, MLB and college football futures carry a taker fee at all times. Makers — orders that rest on the book — never pay, and earn a credit when they get filled.
