Coach Gene Clemons (@geneclemons) and Chris James (@CJFlorida9) recorded Episode 19 of Fade the Field on Thursday, Oct. 1, a few hours before the Week 4 Thursday night game. The show runs four quarters and an overtime: best favorite, best underdog, best over, best under, then props.

The headline is Derrick Henry. CJ called him to lead the league in rushing touchdowns back in the preseason, when that market sat around 12%. By Gene's read on tape it now trades above 30%, so anyone who listened has already roughly tripled the position. This week Henry gets the team that let him walk, and Gene builds a three-rung touchdown ladder on it.

Derrick Henry vs. the Titans: the touchdown ladder

Henry plays Tennessee on Sunday, the team that decided his best days were behind him. Gene's case has three parts. The Titans can't stop the run. Baltimore will want Henry to have a day against his old team. And Lamar Jackson is one of the few quarterbacks who genuinely doesn't care about his own stats, so if the Ravens get to the 3-yard line, Henry gets the ball.

The market agrees he scores and disagrees that he scores twice. Gene read the anytime-touchdown ladder at 68¢ for one, 26¢ for two and 7¢ for three. That 42-point cliff between the first and second rung is the market saying a multi-touchdown game is unlikely. Gene thinks it's the mispriced part.

His structure: take the $75 you'd put on "Henry scores" and split it into three $25 rungs. Here's what that does, before trading fees:

If Henry scoresAll $75 on 1+ TDLadder: $25 each at 68¢ / 26¢ / 7¢
0$0 (−$75)$0 (−$75)
1$110.29 (+$35.29)$36.76 (−$38.24)
2$110.29 (+$35.29)$132.92 (+$57.92)
3+$110.29 (+$35.29)$490.06 (+$415.06)

Read that middle row before you copy it. The ladder loses money if Henry scores exactly once, which is the most likely single outcome at these prices. You're trading the safe $35 for a position that pays only if Henry has a multi-touchdown day. At the market's own prices every rung is fair, so the ladder makes money only if you believe the 26% and 7% are too low. That's the whole of Gene's argument, and CJ adds one more reason: Henry can score through the air too. Get him in space on a screen and nobody wants to tackle him.

If you want to compare those rungs against a model rather than a feeling, the Oracle Ladder lays our distribution next to Kalshi's at every strike, and how a strike ladder reads explains the method. Check fees on small-price rungs with the Kalshi fee calculator before you size them. The game page with the live board is Titans at Ravens, Week 4.

Q1, best favorite: Chiefs at Raiders, stepped up to −6.5

Both hosts landed on the same game. Las Vegas is 3–0, including a win over CJ's Saints in Week 3, and both of them think the record is, in CJ's word, "fugazy." This is the first opponent that can put the Raiders under real stress.

The line is Chiefs −4.5. Both hosts step up to −6.5 for about 2.24x. Gene's reasoning is about where NFL margins actually land: three, six and seven come up constantly, four and five rarely do. If you think Kansas City wins by a touchdown, the −4.5 and the −6.5 cash on almost the same games, and the higher strike pays far more.

The motivation case is long. Travis Kelce may be playing his last season and wants to go out with something left in the tank. Patrick Mahomes looks explosive again. Rashee Rice is playing for his next contract. Gene adds the offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, who has an identity to prove: run it, and if you load up to stop the run, the alien comes out. CJ's closer is the schedule. Kansas City has a Week 5 bye, so there's no reason to save anything.

Live board: Chiefs at Raiders, Week 4.

Q2, best underdog: Jets +3.5 at Chicago, Broncos over San Francisco

Gene is all in on the Jets, though not because he thinks they'll win the division. He thinks they're a competent team that stays in every game: a real quarterback, a defense run by a head coach who should always have been running it, and a deep enough backfield that a missing Breece Hall doesn't scare him. He takes Jets +3.5 and puts about a fifth of the stake on the Jets to win outright. If they win, both pieces pay.

CJ's case for the number is the sharper one. Chicago just beat Philadelphia on national television, and the 3.5 is priced to that game. The hook over three exists to get people to take the Bears. His read is that a sharp line here would be Bears −1.5. He adds a possible absence on the Chicago offensive line, a knee to watch in the backfield, and a short week after an emotional win.

CJ's own underdog is Denver to beat San Francisco straight up at about 2.19x. Nick Bosa missed last week and may miss again, Christian McCaffrey hasn't run well this season, and CJ thinks Denver's front can choke off the intermediate passing game the 49ers live on. Gene's term for it was "provocative," and he didn't argue.

Q3, best over: Falcons at Saints on Monday Night Football

Both hosts said this one at the same time. CJ is a Saints fan from New Orleans and says so on camera, which makes his case worth hearing: the Saints play at one of the fastest paces in the league, their secondary has no answer for Drake London, Michael Penix Jr. has his rhythm back, and the game is in a dome. He sees both teams over 25.

Gene's line is the one to remember: Atlanta can't stop the New Orleans offense, and New Orleans can't stop anybody. Add Bijan Robinson, who Gene calls the best player in the league right now, and he's thinking about scores like 31–28, not 24–20. He reads the over as a ladder and says he'll hold all three rungs:

OverPrice on tapePays
47.552¢~1.92x
50.544¢~2.27x
54.529¢~3.45x

CJ also quoted a 48.5 rung at about 1.97x. Same view, different strike.

Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs?

The over turned into a running-back argument, so for the record: both hosts say Gibbs is the slight fantasy edge and Robinson is the better football player right now. Gene's framing is the useful one. Robinson is chess. He's setting up second-level moves while he's still at the line. Gibbs is checkers. He wins at the first level and deals with the second level when he gets there. Both are excellent.

Q4, best under: Dolphins at Vikings, Lions at Panthers

Gene almost never plays unders because he doesn't like rooting for mediocrity. He makes an exception for Dolphins at Vikings, under 38.5, roughly a coin flip on the board. Miami's defense is the reason the Dolphins have stayed in games, Justin Jefferson may not play for Minnesota, and Minnesota's defensive coordinator has every reason to throw everything at a Miami offense with little left around Malik Willis. CJ's counter is the only way this goes over: turnovers. A short field or a defensive score off a hurried throw can flip a low total fast. Take the under early, he says, and if the number gets pushed down far enough, a small over on top can let you win both.

CJ's under is the one he said doesn't make sense on its face: Lions at Panthers, under 51.5 on Sunday night, after his own Detroit overs went 61, 72 and 55 in the first three weeks. His reasons: rain and 60s in Charlotte, Carolina's secondary without Jaycee Horn, and Detroit's offense likely to answer two-high safeties by running the ball and keeping the clock moving. Carolina's quarterback is also playing behind a line missing its intended starters. He projects something like Lions 24–10.

Overtime: Juwan Johnson anytime touchdown

CJ's prop last week was Drake London's yardage, and London went for 191. This week he takes Saints tight end Juwan Johnson to score at about 3.28x, roughly a 30% price. Johnson already has a two-touchdown game and another touchdown this season, he has a connection with the quarterback, and tight ends keep finding the end zone in this offense. CJ said he can't see why the price is that long.

Johnson and Henry are both player props. If you want to compare them across venues, the NFL prop board shows the best available price on each market, and the Combo Edge Builder, which Gene plugs at the end of the episode, will price any combination of these legs and tell you whether the combo is worth taking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Fade the Field's best NFL Week 4 picks?

Recorded Oct. 1, 2026: Chiefs at Raiders stepped up to Chiefs −6.5 (about 2.24x), Jets +3.5 at Bears, Broncos to beat the 49ers (about 2.19x), the Falcons–Saints over on Monday night (47.5 at 52¢, 50.5 at 44¢, 54.5 at 29¢), Dolphins–Vikings under 38.5, Lions–Panthers under 51.5, Juwan Johnson anytime touchdown (about 3.28x) and a Derrick Henry touchdown ladder against the Titans.

How does the Derrick Henry touchdown ladder work?

Gene splits $75 into three $25 rungs: Henry 1+ touchdowns at 68¢, 2+ at 26¢ and 3+ at 7¢. Before fees, one touchdown returns about $36.76 (a loss of about $38), two return about $132.92 (+$58) and three return about $490 (+$415). The same $75 on one touchdown alone returns about $110.29. The ladder only wins if Henry scores at least twice, which is exactly the view Gene is expressing.

Why step the Chiefs up from −4.5 to −6.5?

Because NFL final margins cluster at three, six and seven and rarely land on four or five. If you believe Kansas City wins by a touchdown, the −4.5 and −6.5 contracts cash on almost the same games, and the −6.5 pays about 2.24x. You give up very little probability for a lot more payout.

Why do both hosts like the Falcons–Saints over on Monday Night Football?

Atlanta cannot stop the New Orleans offense, New Orleans cannot stop anybody, the Saints play at one of the fastest paces in the league, and the game is indoors. Gene expects something like 31–28, and he quotes the over at 47.5 for 52¢, 50.5 for 44¢ and 54.5 for 29¢ and says he will hold all three.

Who is better, Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs?

On the show, both hosts call it close. Gibbs is the slight fantasy edge; Robinson is the better pure football player right now. Gene's framing: Robinson is chess, setting up second-level moves while still at the line, and Gibbs is checkers, winning at the first level and dealing with the second when he gets there.

Are these prices still live?

No. Every number here is what the hosts read on tape when they recorded on Oct. 1, 2026. Prediction-market prices move continuously. Check the live matchup pages and the prop board before you take any position.
