Kalshi had Dee Valladares at 20¢ to win Big Brother 28 and Rick Devens at 19¢ — the night production shut the live feeds off until Sunday for a twist nobody's identified yet. The one detail that leaked before the blackout: no Head of Household, no Power of Veto this cycle.
A full day of trading later, with the house still dark, neither price has gone anywhere. Everything underneath them has.
Dane Martinez's read: that setup is straight competitions deciding the house, and straight competitions are bad news for the players everyone already knows.

The Setup
Market: Who will win Big Brother Season 28? (Kalshi · KXBIGBROTHER-26DEC31)
Names in play: Dee Valladares, Rick Devens, Drew Campbell, Barrett Pfeiffer, Yash Patel
Catalyst: live feeds return Sunday with a twist already confirmed to skip HoH and Veto
What's tradeable right now: nothing settles this week — this is a positioning read, not a locked trade
This isn't a market that resolves Thursday. It's a board about to get real information dumped on it all at once when the feeds come back, and Dane's point is simple: know where you stand before that happens, not after the price has already moved.
Why This Breaks Bad for the Icons
Dee Valladares and Rick Devens are the two returning names in the house — call them the Icons, because that's what the market's pricing them as. Their safety this season hasn't come from being unbeatable in competitions. It's come from the normal Big Brother machinery: win Head of Household, control nominations; win Veto, control the board; work the social game in between. Alliance math protects the people who play it well, and the Icons play it well.
Pull the HoH and Veto structure out for even one cycle and that protection doesn't just weaken — it disappears. Straight competitions (Dane's read on what "no HoH or Veto" actually means in practice) strip the game down to a format where social capital can't call the shots. That's the "power shift we've been waiting for": not a rules change on paper, but a week where the people who've been running the house on relationships instead of results have to win to survive, same as everyone else.
Neither Dee nor Devens has done anything to deserve a bad market. This is a structural read on the twist itself — the format working against exactly the kind of game that's kept both of them alive this long.
The Board
| Houseguest | On the video | Later that evening (bid / ask) | 24h volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dee Valladares | 20¢ | 18 / 19 | 12,900 |
| Rick Devens | 19¢ | 18 / 19 | 5,800 |
| Drew Campbell | — | 10 / 11 (3¢ at the previous close) | 13,000 |
| Barrett Pfeiffer | 9¢ | 8 / 9 | 22,200 |
| Yash Patel | 14¢ | 8 / 9 | 24,900 |
⚠️ This is a season-long market that trades continuously — the right column is a timestamped snapshot from the evening of August 28, not a live quote, and it will have moved by the time you read it. What matters isn't the cent, it's the shape.
And the shape says something more useful than "the Icons are getting sold." They aren't. Dee and Devens came out of a full day of blackout trading quoted identically to each other and to where the video left them. The two names this twist thesis is about did not reprice.
The money went somewhere else. Yash Patel fell from 14¢ into single digits on about 25,000 contracts. Drew Campbell — who isn't mentioned in the video at all — went from 3¢ at the previous close into double digits on 13,000. That's a real repricing of the middle of the board while the top sat still.
The whole seventeen-contract board sums to about 101¢ at last trade, which is a genuinely tight book by reality-market standards — there's almost no overround to strip out here, so a quoted price is close to a clean implied probability. Check the math yourself with the Probability Converter.
The Edge
- The twist isn't priced at the top yet. If Dane's read is right and a no-HoH, no-Veto week is specifically the scenario where a durable social game stops mattering, then the two favorites are carrying risk the board hasn't touched. The market repriced Yash and Drew this week. It did not reprice the Icons.
- The middle is already moving without the feeds. Drew tripling and Yash halving while the house sits dark means traders are positioning on something — house reads from before the blackout, most likely. That's not proof of anything about the twist, but it does tell you this board reprices fast when anyone thinks they know something.
- Nobody has the actual information yet. That's the opportunity, not a reason to wait. The whole board reprices the second the feeds go live Sunday. Being early to the reasoning means you're not starting from zero when the number moves.
- Barrett is the name that hasn't budged. Well-liked, no target, single digits before the video and single digits after it, with heavy volume trading around him. If a straight-competition week is genuinely coming, a well-liked houseguest with no glaring competition résumé is a very different kind of exposure than a marked favorite.

How to Trade It When the Twist Drops
- Have the Big Brother 28 winner market pulled up before the feeds return Sunday — not after.
- Watch Dee and Devens first. If the twist is the straight-competition format Dane expects, their prices are the ones that should move fastest — and they're the two that have moved least so far.
- Don't chase the first tick. Reality-market reprices overshoot in the first hour and settle once the house's actual read gets out. Let the board breathe.
- Size whatever you take with Kelly — quarter-Kelly or smaller. A twist reveal is exactly the kind of one-headline catalyst that makes a full-Kelly position reckless on a reality-TV market.

The Downside (Be Honest About It)
"We think" is doing real work in Dane's read. Nobody outside the house has confirmed what the twist actually is — only that HoH and Veto are off the table this cycle. If the actual format lands differently than a straight-competition read, the entire thesis here doesn't apply, and Dee and Devens could just as easily come out of Sunday stronger, not weaker.
The market is arguing back, quietly. A day of trading with the feeds dark moved Yash five cents and Drew seven, and left the two Icons essentially untouched. Either the board hasn't caught up to the twist read yet — which is the bull case for this whole piece — or the people trading it don't believe a format change threatens Dee and Devens at all. Both are live possibilities and the price isn't telling you which.
This is a reality-TV market, not a modeled one. There's no base rate for "no HoH, no Veto" weeks because the format hasn't been revealed yet. Everything here is a structural read on incomplete information, not a calculated edge — treat it accordingly and size small.
The Bottom Line
Kalshi had Dee at 20¢ and Devens at 19¢ when the house went dark, and a full day of blackout trading has moved almost everyone on the board except the two players this twist is supposedly about. No HoH, no Veto reads as a structural threat to exactly the game that's protected them all season. Nobody knows the real twist yet. Have the board up Sunday when the feeds come back, and don't be the last one to reprice it.
