Coach Gene Clemons and Chris James record Episode 17 of Fade the Field on the Monday after NFL Week 1, working the Week 2 slate before the market has digested the opening weekend. The organizing argument is that the first three weeks of a season are the widest window of the year because a price cannot correct faster than the sample it is built on: Week 1 overreaction sits inside Week 2 numbers, and a contract bought Monday at 45 cents that trades at 52 cents by Sunday has already paid before kickoff. Gene opens with the New Orleans and Detroit defenses, both of which he calls uncorrectable inside three weeks, and takes Ravens-Saints over 47.5 at 49 cents. CJ takes Bears-Vikings over 48.5 at roughly 1.97 times his money. Gene takes Lions-Bills over 54.5 at 45 cents on Thursday night in Buffalo's new stadium. CJ inverts the method and takes the Steelers-Patriots under at a 40.5 rung for about 2.1 times his money. Gene takes Cowboys-Commanders over 51.5 at 51 cents on the argument that both teams' personalities are offensive regardless of what their defenses intend. CJ takes Jets-Packers over 44.5 at roughly two times his money and says he cannot explain why it is that cheap. Gene takes Philadelphia minus 7.5 against Tennessee at 48 cents. CJ steps Tampa Bay up to minus 13.5 against Cleveland for about 2.66 times his money. In overtime, CJ takes Lamar Jackson over on total and rushing yardage against New Orleans, and Gene builds a three-leg anytime-touchdown combo of Josh Allen at 48 cents, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Barkley. Both hosts stress laddering into a position at successive rungs rather than taking one number, and both note that a prediction-market contract can be sold before the game is played.
