Election Day, Nov 3 — settles when the race is decided under Kalshi's rules
Markets over pundits: Kansas, YES on the Democrat at 63¢ on Kalshi. Cook and Inside Elections still call it a toss-up. The market has moved from 19¢ to 63¢ since Aug. 30.
The case is markets over pundits. Kalshi prices Adam Hamilton at 63¢ to beat Roger Marshall. Cook and Inside Elections still rate Kansas a toss-up, and Sabato has it Lean D, about 53% on average when you turn those ratings into probabilities. The market got here first: Hamilton was 19¢ on Aug. 30, bottomed at 17¢, and added about 20 cents in the final week alone. In our Election Day write-up, Kansas is the biggest move on the board — "19¢ on Aug 30; up 20 in the last week alone" — and the seat that turns a majority into a cushion: "Kansas and Iowa are what turn a majority into a cushion." Why side with the market: our 2024 scorecard tested exactly this disagreement. Its rule: "when a market and a polling average disagree by more than three points, favor the market." In 2024 the market was right on 27 of 35 of those disagreements. Kansas is a ten-point gap between the market and the forecasters. What this is and isn't: it's a side-with-the-market call, not a model edge. At 63¢ you're paying the market's own price; the thesis is that the toss-up rating is the stale number. In our 35-race simulation, Democrats control the Senate about 91% of the time when they win Kansas and about 41% when they don't, so it also works as a cushion position for anyone holding Democratic control. A 63¢ contract still loses more than one time in three. Size it small: probability converter and Kelly sizer below.
