Fade the Field Ep. 11

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another edition of Fade the Field. I'm Coach Jean Clemens aka Arumula. This is a Seven Oracles production. And you know who I got with me, right? Right. Right. I got my guy CJ Chris James chopping up with CJ. What's up, boss? How you doing, man? making it happen just like the World Cup that just kicked off. So, just trying to get things moving forward here in the summer. Yeah. I mean, the World Cup's been fantastic to start with, right? The the stars have been absolutely obliterating the goal. Like, the net is on fire with all of these stars throwing throwing, you know, putting balls in the back of the net. Um, but we got to start here because as we were getting ready to begin, the announcement came out that the NFL has denied the application of Brennan Sorsby to go into the supplemental draft. And so I wanted to get your take on this really quick and and and I'll I'll I'll share my take because I think this is really interesting and I think it's the right move. So, for me, I look at this as this is a default like one-year punishment, right? This is this is a default one-year punishment because you bet on football. And even more egregiously, you bet on your on your team. Now, in my world, in my brain, you bet on your team, you don't play ever again. That's how I roll because I don't know if there's ever a way to trust you if you're betting on your team. Yeah, you might bet for your team to win, but you know what that does when you don't bet on your team? It means you think they're going to lose. And so you have already set a an an unfair advantage or given an unfair um what what word am I looking for? Like an in like insider trading. Cuz if you feel good about the team winning, then you bet. But when you don't feel good about the team, does that mean you don't bet? So, I don't like it. It's too easy. It's too man manipulative. Um, I I I respect the fact that he is claiming to have an addiction. I just don't believe it necessarily, right? I think that what's really going on is this is what somebody told him to say in order to get by with all of the stuff that he was doing. Now, if he does have an addiction and if it's real, I don't take alcoholics to the bar, right? Like, I don't take the alcoholic to the bar. Why would I set the alcoholic up for for failure unless that alcoholic has proven that they're okay in those situations? We have no proof that Brandon Sorsby, as an an admitted gambling addict, is okay not gambling on sports. So why would I then give him another opportunity to be able to do that and put corruption or any type of hint of corruption on the game? I'm going to sit him down. And the reason why I think that the year is right in this situation is because the president was already set um a few years ago for Atlanta um wide receiver for the Titans, Calvin Ridley. Calvin Ridley was sat down for a year after after gambling and he wasn't even gambling on his own team. So, I think that this is right. I like the fact that the NFL came down this way and didn't essentially give this kid or this young man, I won't even say kid cuz he ain't like 18. Give this young man the opportunity to somehow come out of this ahead of where he was going to come out if if you know this didn't happen. Yeah. So, I want to start with I will give the NFL a little bit of credit because I think they just cancelled the entirety of it. So, it's basically just achieving the same goal of not having him as a talking point in a portion of the league for this upcoming season by saying no one can go into the supplemental draft. If they would have just denied him and still had it, give him a little more credit, but uh they took what could be seen as a easier road out as far as it goes with him. uh it is 1,00% inside of trading when you have knowledge of something where you also not only understand the conditions but you know the people who are pulling the levers right so not only betting on your own team I don't like betting on your own sport because of all the things that you know that are going on the ins and outs that operate there so I'm not going to you know throw the young man away but he needed to step away and one of our guys playbook Emory Hunt was saying hey you You want to show that you got it out the mud or that you you're repairing what you're doing. Don't touch the NFL for right now. Go play in another league. Go show that you still got this football in you. Go grind a little bit. Show that you've matured in multiple ways, including being able to handle the rigors of something that's not as easy as college football. And when I say it like that, people will be offended. But understand what I'm saying. They're now getting those NIL deals. They're getting that good money to play college football. Go make a little bit less to go play in these other leagues. and go through it with these other guys and see what happens. So, I'm glad they're setting the stage for him to prove out himself. And what it also does is some of these guys who are draft analysts who are now getting these hot takes out of here of him being the second best quarterback in [laughter] we can uh see what happens in different conditions for the second best quarterback in this draft if you would to enter cons according to some who I was in Indie. I didn't hear nothing about that. So, hey, it is what it is. Yeah. I I I think that it's a it's a win. And and and here's the thing. Here's why I don't feel bad for Sorsby. He still got paid. Like, he still got his money from Texas Tech for the time that he was there. So, he might he may not have he may not have received his full like 5 million or whatever it was. Um, but he received a few million already. So, it's not like he's broke out here. So, he he'll be fine. and and next year they'll they'll play him up and make him seem like he's way better than what he really is. You know how it goes. And he'll go out and throw at for somebody's pro day and he'll he'll be able to put on a show and he'll go into the draft. I think if I'm him, I go and call a UFFL up and say, "Hey, next year instead of me, can I I want to play for a UFFL team?" And then someone could draft me while I'm playing for the UFFL team. I don't know how that works, but if if if I'm him, I'm trying to go that route and see if I can prove it versus pros, come out there, really put a show on. And now, if I can go in as a free agent, I may be able to garner better deals than maybe even some of the rookies that are that are first rounders. So, if I wanted to bet on myself, that's what I would be thinking in that in that case. No, that that's an interesting path. And again, I'm not against it. In fact, I champion it. And also, you are really showing the league what you can do against other grown men who are out there getting after it. And if you go out there and shine, it's a no-brainer. You might end up being a first round pick. Yeah, absolutely. Let's get into some of these topics for the day cuz uh like we've got some interesting stuff going on, not only with the World Cup, but obviously with football, who's that's our first love. So, let's get it let's get it popping. Let's get into these topics. And our first our topic is like talking about the World Cup and we're not going to break down every single game because like you know we're football guys. We love soccer. We love the the fan bases of some of these soccer teams especially. Hey, salute to Kate Ver. Salute to Columbia. Salute to I mean it's too many to name, right? But we love you all and we will see you in the knockout rounds somewhere. I promise you. But like the one thing we wanted to talk about cuz I think we all can can can look at this especially in how it's trading on Koshi is the golden boot winner, right? Like on the go the golden boot winner right now. Leono Messi has been going crazy out here. His first two his first two games he has four goals. um Killian Mbappé his first two games he has four goals. Um we've we we watched right now as um Cristiano Ronaldo as we are currently recording this the Portugal game is at halftime. He already has two goals in this one after everybody else told us we that he was dead. Um Harry Kane um balling um Halen um Howland, excuse me, um from Norway. He has four goals already. So, we've got we've got plenty of names. Harry Kane, I think, um plays later on today. He's got two goals. He could easily put another couple on the board. They have a very winnable match today as well. What are some of these ways that you're looking at it from somebody who might not be as deeply, you know, entrenched into um football as maybe some others? So I'm going use a similar approach to what I would use in the spheres that we operate. Right? So the number one a lot of times whether it's name recognition or it's just how you can perform and there's a guy who is he's moved from 23 times your money while we've been talking to 18 times your money and that's Ronaldo because of what he's done so far today. The other portion is I like to look at a favorite that can also go further. And these tournaments, the more time you put out there, the more games. I'm gonna say Mbappe, who's at like what, 2.7 times your money. It's not a huge amount, but that's one of those safe bets where you're going to get a probable return that can go left, but it's going to go left to someone else who is on the same level. So, that would be the approach I would take. Sprinkle a little bit on a a known quantity who's trading really low, but is moving up the boards. and then also go one of the favorites as well. So, you can kind of hedge your bets and make a little bit of coin along the way. Yeah, I think about that with with with guys like if they're going to win the Golden Boot and they're not making it to the knockout rounds or you don't think that they're going to make it to the final eight, then there's a a higher than likely chance those guys aren't winning. Here's what also people have to have to understand. when you get into the knockout rounds, the the game plan for these elite level teams is to not allow the the star to get their foot on the ball. So that opens up other people to be able to score. So, for me, I start trying to look at what are the names on here where they're not like the the maybe they're a star, but they're not the main goal scorer, but they they have a path to scoring goals. It's going to be a long shot because he's he's really far behind right now, right? But Lam Le Yamal, the youngster from Spain who got on the board for the first time in their second match play in the third in their third match, Spain is going to absolutely wipe the floor with the opponent. Like it's not even going to be close. They don't have anything to play for. Spain has everything to play for because they want they want their seating to be what it is. they're going to win the group stage, but they want to make sure that they go in as one of the tops. And I can see with them paying attention to all of these other really good players, a guy at Yamal like Yamal just quietly going along, a goal, a goal in their next match play, a goal in the in the in the knockout rounds of 32, a goal in the knockout round of 16. All of a sudden, he's close to those stars who dry up because now they don't have they they're not they're not playing as free because everyone's looking to stop them, right? Everybody's going to be looking to stop Mbappe. That's trading at 31 and 31 um 5x on your money. So, that's a long shot that I think has legs and that's what I'm looking for here. If I'm not just trying to go out there and put like safe money on your Mbappes or your um or or on on on your messes and your Harry Kanees, things of that nature. That makes complete sense. And again, this is one of the things that I love about these futures markets. You're getting ahead of the curve. So, if we would have done Ronaldo earlier today as just an example, again, it went from 23x to 18x just like that because he came out and he showed out. You don't have to ride this whole thing out that you're talking about at this level of money. When it starts to become a conversation, that first time his name pops up in those conversations, all of a sudden people put money on it. Now you're selling them that good coming out and you made some coin that you didn't have before. Yeah. Let's go to the next one. Will the USA advance to the round of 16? Now, currently the USA is trading um pretty well. Like the USA is is is on track according to the way that they're trading to make the round of 16. and I believe it's 78% um on on couchi to make the round of 16. But the the question is do you believe it? Because I can tell you from my from my standpoint, we've been here before. We've we've seen times where the US was expected to go deep and then once the the the competition got better, we saw them shrink up. So I'm a little apprehensive. I do think they get past the round of 32. I I I I but I do think there's a way that they could possibly like trick this off. I want to believe and in fact I will believe, you know, I believe that we will win, but I want to make money. So I would fade this one. I would actually go against it with my money because that's where you can make some. They may get in that stage. And to your point, because of the way the socks played, they get a little tight. The the approach changes up a little bit. So, I think there's a chance they won't, but at least you got your money in there where you can make some true money by going against this. So, that would be my play on it. But, I do believe they have a good chance to make it. That makes that makes sense. If you believe if you believe that they're going to win, there's no value in taking them to make the round of 16. the value is beyond that, right? The value is in the round of eight, um the semifinals. If you think that they really and truly have a chance to make the round of 16, what you're saying is is they're a major player to win it all. Like the that's that's that's how this thing works. Once you're into the 16, it's just a matter of who does what from a from a a an investment standpoint, right? if you go against them, you're not going to put heavy money down when you're fading them because you're going to get really good odds. I mean, right now you're getting about six to one on your money. So, like the the opportunity to get in there and get like pretty good odds to where um you can make a little bit of money. I'm sad that they lost, but the consolation is I I want a little I got a little bit more bread in the account, right? And so that's a way of thinking about that if you if you remove emotion from it like the value for them is is going away. But I think it brings up another another topic like has the United States turned the corner because they've looked impressive in these wins. Like a lot of times when the United States win group when they win um their match games in the group they're usually like okay they won but it wasn't like dominant. They've looked really, really good. And in their second match, they did it without um Christian Plesic, which which tells us, hey, they have other guys who can help make plays. Um they may even have found a guy who is a legitimate finisher in in in Balagon. So, do you think this is the United States turning the corner? at least. Do you hope that this is the them turning the corner or do you just think that this is this kind of how it plays out depending upon who you're going up against in a group stage? I think that it is an opportunity where they are turning the corner. There seems to be more of a fervor for soccer and I don't mean for the people watching it. I mean people wanting to play it. The high level athletes more and more are getting into this realm and the playing field is a little more even. And the other thing there is this sometimes teams even if they're talented enough to win fall on their face because the stage feels too big for them. I don't think the stage feels too big for them right now. That's why they're going out and they're being a level of dominant. That's why I'm saying I do believe that they're going to win but at the same point in time that's not where you're going to make your money. That's why you put a little bit down to Jean's point. And this is almost like a threequarters parlay. You got four legs on it and you're able to pull out at three legs of it in case things go left. So, that's where I would what I would do and where I would go. Yeah. I I hope um I think one of the things that I like and and and this is a this is something because I've talked about it and soccer people hate when we talk about this and how the United States isn't getting the best athletes and they're getting the the kind of second and third level athletes. I think what we saw um the goal scorer, one of the goal scorers in the the United States was Freeman who is the son of a former NFL player in Antonio Freeman, former Packers wide receiver. Like that's what you'll see. Remember when Papey Jones son started playing hockey and he was one of the best hockey players in the country in juniors? Like that's what that ladies and gentlemen this is all we're saying is that when you start having the elite level jeans decide that they want to play like soccer instead of playing basketball and football because or especially football because people are worried about injuries. you can have this type of stuff happens um happen. And so the more you see of that, the more you see um soccer become sexier in the states, I think the more you'll see the elite level um athletes or the elite level jeans continue to push towards the the beautiful game. Let's go to the next. That that that's the point. All right. So, we're back on we're back on football because, you know, we love soccer. We love football, but we love football. And on over on Koshi, they have released the um the team the team totals for the for the year. And so we get an opportunity to see the win totals for every team. And so over the next few shows, we'll be diving a little bit more deep a little deeper into these team totals. And the first team we want to start with is the the champs. We always start with the champs, right? Like we want to talk about the Seattle Seahawks. Right now the forecast for the Seahawks total wins 11.7. Just when you hear when you hear that number in your head immediately, are you thinking like more than or less than 11 and a half wins? So, are you thinking 12 wins or you thinking 10 wins or you thinking lean I'd lean actually more towards 10? In fact, I went through and I projected every game all 272 or whatever it is and ended up with 10 and seven. Now, a 10-7 record doesn't sound great, but the schedule doesn't align well for them, and they actually have the second highest wins index behind the Rams. So, I do think they're a good team. So, I I'd say 10 is more likely than 12 with how things are set up. Now, if you're looking at this on on Koshi, the way to play this is not to take them 10 wins plus. The way to take this if you're trying to if you're trying to make some money is to take this at no on 11 plus wins. If you think that if you agree with if you agree with CJ and and I tend to agree because I think that they play in a really difficult division where it doesn't it almost doesn't matter what your record is coming out of there. You're going to kind of be fortified and ready for the playoffs. And so I could see them having a little bit of that Super Bowl Super Bowl lag, but still being good because their defense is great. So if you think that they only get to 10 wins, the the more advantageous play is is to go no on 11 plus wins. That's trading at 43% right now. 10 plus wins is trading at 70%. So, if you want to if you want to get your investment in on the money that makes more sense, you want to go that way. Now, if you think they're going to win 11 games, then you take the 11 plus you you take the yes on 11 plus wins cuz that's 57%. If you took the 10 plus wins and said yes on 10 plus wins, it's 70%. So, this is how you want to look at the game. Um, I agree with you. I think that I love I love the additions at running the additions at running back, both of them. I like bringing over um the young boy from from from Green Bay. I think that's a a really solid number two guy to have. I I like the additions from the draft. My my only issue is when does when does Sam Darnold turn back into a pumpkin? Right. like the when does when does the Cinderella stop for Sam Darnold? Because he lived a charm life in the in the playoffs where he wasn't really asked to do anything. They ran the ball extremely well. They played really good defense and then in the champion in the in the in the in in the the Super Bowl, he didn't play great. He was throwing that ball to to the other people. He was trying to he was trying to trick it away. It's just that new New England was just that much worse, right? Drake May was that much worse. So, does he come back to life? And I think that's why I would go with um no on a on 11 plus wins because I think there's a chance that they might end up with nine wins. Yeah. So, here's how I would play it. To Gene's point, I would go no and 11 and a 11 right now. That would be my first play because your schedule sets up. They start with New England. they have a easy game against the Cardinals, but then it's at the Commanders, the Chargers, the 49ers, at Denver, at the Chiefs. In that stretch when they're probably going to be one and three or two and three, that's when I would take the 10 plus wins because that's when you can get your actual value. And now you're playing it both ways and you can both sides. That's fantastic. That's that's that's a great thought. I wasn't even thinking that in the moment, but that makes so much sense, especially if they get off to a slow start because the prediction is the prediction and you should the prediction shouldn't waver because they hit a rough patch. That's what the prediction is for. That's why it's only 10 wins. So, if you're if you're convicted about them winning 10, then you get your money in after they drop some, it's going to go from 70% to, you know, 40 something% or maybe even 30 something% if they get two to three games in a row, it's going to drop. Now, you've got money on both sides. That's fantastic. Um, great insight on that one. Let's let's let's go to the next team. You know, if we if we're going to talk about the Super Bowl winners, we got to talk about the people who just, you know, didn't get it done in the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots. Their their win totals this year. Um, right here. Okay. So, right now, the forecast for wins for New England is 10.2. Immediately when you hear it, do you think over or do you think under that number? Based on all the conditions that are set, and full disclosure, I haven't going 11 and six. So, I'm thinking over. The conditions that are set, their schedule actually is pretty solid for them. They're in a division with a coach in a second year who's getting some help finally, and then with a rookie head coach, so they might be able to pick up some games there. And then again, they have some advantageous situations later on. So, I'm going plus. over that number cuz I think they have 11 or even 12 wins this season. So interesting. Did you have them marked at 11 wins before AJ Brown or did you adjust when AJ Brown was added to this roster? So I didn't go through and do it until right then and we knew it was going to happen right at the point. So the last week of May is when I started doing this. So yes, he was included in this because there are some situations where now he gives an easy button to a quarterback who is still young trying to figure things out and now that he gets a guy who can get all bump pressed and even if he doesn't he's going to take the ball from somebody. It makes a lot easier in some of those games that'll be more 50/50 that could go the opposite way this year unlike last year. Yeah, I think he he he has a what do they call it? He has a magic eraser out there because there's some you can see it in some He's He's very He's very Josh Allenish in this way. He'll throw the ball to you. It just might not be right where you needed it to have. And when did Josh Allen have his best success? When he had Diggs in his prime and Diggs could essentially just pluck it from wherever. You have an AJ Brown that has an even obviously an even bigger catch radius than than Diggs who kind of excels in that. And I think he will be he will be locked in and focused to have a great year because now people are going to be looking at him and going, "All right, well now you got a what you think is a better quarterback. What are you going to do right now? You're in a situation where they're going to feed you more passes. What are you going to do?" So, I think he will be incentivized to have his best year um in the first year and then obviously, you know, everybody's always angling for another payday. So, that's never a bad thing. The one thing that I that I go back to that I'm not sure about, I'm not sure how good this defense really is. They played they played a dog schedule last year. They played an absolutely abysmal schedule last year. And if if Bo Knicks doesn't get injured, they're not in the championship. I know if if was a fifth, we'd all be drunk, but the truth is still the truth, right? Like, yeah, I wonder how good this defense is and if it becomes a situation where they have to get into shootouts with with teams in order to win, will they be able to hold up? That that's the question that I'm I I really want to know. They have to be able to generate a more consistent pass rush because I like their corners. The problem is corners can only cover for so long. So, you need to actually be able to get get a good fourman rush, not have to blitz all the time. That could be one of their hindrances to ultimate success, but same point in time, they did make life a bit easier on that offense with several additions, including getting another offensive lineman to even further bolster that unit. Yeah, I I like I like what they've done. I I I'm I'm It's interesting because they're they're going to get the luxury of the Bills with a a firsttime head coach even though he's been there as the offensive coordinator, Miami with a first time head coach and we don't really know what they're doing. Um and the Jets trying to figure it out even though I think they should be better um more equipped than they were in 2025. all thing. If you count those teams and we just said, "Hey, two wins versus the Jets, two wins versus the Dolphins, you're already at four." I can see how you can get to that number. And um 36%, right? 11 plus wins for for the Patriots is trading at 36%. That's that's solid. Even if you wanted to go at 10 plus wins, you'd still get that for 53%. That's not bad on your money either. Let's go to our last one. And this is this is a this is a a Chris James CJ special. Let's check out this last one we had. The Rams are all the rage and with that um a lot of people prognosticating the Rams because they got Miles Garrett as if Miles Garrett has always been a winner. I I I digress. Um, I really get I really get annoyed if you can't tell when all of a sudden people want to act as if these edge rushers are the like the the thing that puts you over the top. Like it's it's not really like the the extra receiver that you got that that made all the plays. Like when the Rams got when the Rams got all of those guys, people people focused on Von Miller, right? and them getting Von Miller um for that for that championship run the first time. I think it was Von Miller, right? If I'm not mistaken. Yeah, he went on side of Yeah. Yeah. like a number 40 or something crazy like that. Yeah. Like they acted like it was Von Miller but but we all know that Jaylen Ramsey was cooking also. Jaylen Ramsay was there and then OBJ was going bananas before he heard himself, you know, over there and and so it's it's weird when I hear that. What do you think about this team? like when when you think about the Rams this year. Um what do you look at the the win totals? Um what do you see it being? The forecast is 11.86. Obviously pe most people think 12 12 wins. Are you inclined to agree or do you think it's going to be rougher than people want to give it credit for? Sure. So I have a more tightly wound wins index. I'm at 11.53. For context, that's higher than any team's been since I think it was the 2023 uh Chiefs. So, I'm going 14 and three. And one of the things that I think is helpful, it's not just the Miles Garrett edition. They've offered themselves a situation that kind of mirrors the Thunder. They don't have a lot of holes. So, they don't have anything that's just truly a letdown. It was the secondary last year, which could give up some points, and we saw it happen in NFC Championship. Well, they went and bolstered that. They got Miles Garrett so that they don't have to they can keep seven guys in coverage more often. So, they went and did that. And just in case, and we hope this doesn't happen because 14 wins is not happening if this happens. They went and got a backup quarterback just in case Matt Stafford needs to take a break at some point since I've never known anyone who used to have a bad back. He was just lucky enough to not have it affect him at all last year. So if they stay relatively healthy, I think that 11.8 or whatnot is easily achieved. And like I said, I am currently at 14 and three. So So right now you you would take plus 14 or 14 plus wins. I take plus 13 wins. And the main reason I take 13 or more is because if they're sitting in the cat bird seat that last week and they sit everybody, that could be the thing. Yep. Yep. So, so just so we're just so we're clear at 12 plus wins, you're still get it's still trading at 48%. So, you're getting over a double, you know, doubling your money, a little over doubling your money. 13 plus wins is trading at 40%. That's almost that's almost like like three to two if you were thinking about if you were thinking about it that way, right? You know, um 2.4x 4x and then if you do think it's 14 wins, you're getting it at 3 and a halfx, 3.5x. So, um, solid value for such something higher. And interesting that you're this is probably the cheapest you're going to get it, right? Like this is the cheapest you'll get at at 13 plus. After the first after the first win of the season, that thing will be 53% 56%. You'll never see it under 50 again unless they have a slide which hard to imagine them having. Um it is a rough it is a rougher, you know, division, but it's not one because you have Arizona there, right? It's not one where you're like, oh my gosh, like it's just going to be a rock fight every every night. Like San Francisco's coming back from injuries. We'll see what they are. The Rams are set up for the run. They're set up for the run and that's how you have to take it. Like listen to CJ, take that thing at 13 wins, get it at 40%. Um, if for some reason they lose a game and it drops, then do what you do in regular investing, like buy more shares. Like buy more shares because at some point they're going to get it working. They've got one of the best coaches in the game, Shawn McVey. Um, if you believe in McVey, if you think that that that Stafford gets another year healthy out of that body, then there's no reason to think they can't they can't run this thing back and have another really good season. The best thing that could happen to you for that 13 plus is them losing in Australia week one because guess what? You can go and tank more and more into that because them going 13 and three is completely reasonable with the rest of their schedule. It actually sets up pretty well for them. Absolutely.
