How to read the cards

Each number is the teammate's per-game average without the star minus his average with him, over the last two seasons (games where both were on the same team). Minutes are not filtered — when a star sits, a few players simply play more, and that is part of the effect. Early in the season the sample is the last two completed seasons; a card says so when the roster has turned over.

Kalshi charges a trading fee on each fill, not on winnings: 7% × contracts × price × (1 − price), rounded up to the cent, so it peaks at 1.75¢ per contract on a 50¢ contract and shrinks toward zero at the extremes. It is paid at entry whether the position wins or loses; there is no settlement fee. Resting (maker) orders pay no fee on most standard markets. Educational analysis, not financial advice.

NBA injury report — frequently asked

Where does the injury status come from?

The official NBA injury report, which the league publishes every 15 minutes on game days. We read it at 1:00 PM ET and every 30 minutes after until tip-off. Teams must file by 1:00 PM local time, so West Coast statuses can land as late as 4:00 PM ET — until a team files, its listed statuses are the latest available and are labelled that way.

What does "who benefits" mean here?

For each absent star we look at every past game where he sat and his teammates suited up, and compare each teammate’s minutes, points, rebounds, assists, threes and usage rate to the games the star played. The numbers are what actually happened — historical splits, not a projection.

Why are some rows faded with a warning badge?

Small samples. A row built on 1–3 games without the star is marked "⚠ n=2" and faded: treat it as an anecdote, not a pattern. 4–7 games carries an amber "n=5" badge. Every row prints its game count. The order uses a small-sample shrink so a one-game outlier never leads a card, but the number shown is always the raw average.

What is a fork?

A questionable, doubtful or game-time-decision star gets two branches side by side: "if he plays" (his own averages) and "if he sits" (the teammate splits). When he is ruled in or out, the losing branch is blacked out and time-stamped rather than deleted, so you can see both sides were on the board before the news.

What does "mostly with ___ also out" mean?

When another star on the same team also missed more than half of those games, the split mostly describes life without both of them. We keep those games, count them, and label the row.

What is usage rate?

The share of a team’s possessions a player finishes with a shot, free throws or a turnover while he is on the floor: 100 × (FGA + 0.44·FTA + TOV) × (team minutes / 5) ÷ (minutes × (team FGA + 0.44·team FTA + team TOV)).
