What’s in this video
This Prediction Market Academy episode from The 7 Oracles explains how traders on Kalshi can switch from being a market taker to a market maker by setting their own limit prices instead of accepting the price shown. Using a live example on a Fed rate market, the hosts show how adjusting a limit order from 63 cents to 61 cents per share reduces costs on a trade. They argue that doing this consistently across many trades can meaningfully lower fees and improve overall results.
Key points
- Market takers accept the listed price, while market makers set their own limit price to try to get a better entry.
- On the example Fed rate market, buying 100 shares at 63 cents per share included a fee, and lowering the limit price to 61 cents reduced the cost per trade.
- Fees vary by market, so checking the cost breakdown before submitting a trade matters.
- Small per-trade savings can add up significantly for active traders placing many trades over a day or month.
- The hosts compare this to real-time examples, like adjusting a Josh Allen rushing yards line instead of taking the posted number as is.
- They point to tools like ladders on their site to compare Kalshi prices against other platforms for the same outcome.

All right. So, here's what I here's what I really want to do. I was telling you guys this story before we came on, right? Hanging out with a bunch of my boys this weekend. They're all degenerate gamblers. You know, we all kind of grew up that way, right? Or in this case, we'll say degenerate traders, right? So, they're all degenerate traders. We're watching the games, having a couple beers, hanging out, right? And I said to these guys, because I'm watching them like, you know, oh yo, this guy's at this or this team's there or that team's there. And they're just going on and taking prices. And I'm like, why aren't you guys making your own market? And they're like, what are you talking about? Uh, and that it was like I had three heads. So I said to you guys, you guys know we've all been doing this ourselves, picking prices. Like that's kind of the point of the website, right? Like we're telling you, hey, we think the price should be here. The price is here right now. You can get it a little cheaper. There's a little bit of an edge there. You know, any money you can save is something that's going to wind up being better for you in the long run. Especially if you're putting in a whole bunch of trades, right? Like there are guys that I was sitting with that put in 15, 20 trades while we were watching a one:00 game, you know, sitting there hanging out. If you're losing three, four cents on every one of those trades and you're buying 40, 50, 60, 100, 200, a thousand shares, you know, that's an extra 30, 40, 50 bucks that you're wasting that could go into either getting you an extra 30 or $40 worth of those shares or that you're just saving money on it and you're going to have more of an upside if the things that you have hit or less of a loss when they lose, right? Um, so Dane, can you can you put up like a Koshi or you know, Alex, if you're on the back screen, can you put up a couch screen? I just want to show people real quick like how easy it is to just switch from being the market taker getting screwed with the worst rates to being the market maker who's getting better money on everything real quick. And you know what's funny, Bang? Like when Alex gets to that, I literally had the same experience. I'm watching Monday Night Football. I'm at the bar with a friend and he's like, "What do we think we should get?" And we settled on the Josh Allen rushing yards, right? And he's like, "Oh, well, it's at 32 and a half." I was like, "Listen, that dude is gonna sail over that. So if you want to be more aggressive like my man Coach Jean, why don't we bump it up a little bit? Dude finishes like 119 rushing yards. You know what I'm saying? So if you want to just take like what they're giving you instead of dictating it to them, sometimes we call it lading it, right? But that's a lot of different ways you can go. Uh so Benny, tell our boy intern Alex where to click around and find. Yeah. So so Alex, it doesn't even matter what you click on. So just go down to like what is it? Fed maintains rate. Let's click on that 62% for a second because this is what I want to show people. You see up in the top right corner there where it says dollars? Go up to where it says dollars and click on that. Okay. Now you're going to go down to limit. All right. So now this is this is more when you have it set in dollars. That's basically what most people are doing when they're they're going on to the sportsbook app and trading, right? like you're going on there, you're seeing what the price is that's there, and you're putting in the amount of money you want to bet, you know, amount of money you want to make on this market in order to win, and you see what your win is and all that, and you submit it. Now, here's what I want people to really look at. So, Alex, do me a favor. Just pick a round number. Let's put in like a 100 shares, okay? Don't touch the the limit price at all right now. Now, 100 shares, 63 cents a share. So, you would say, "Okay, well, I'm going to be paying 63 cents." But there's also a little fee in there. If you look down to the bottom at the cost, see where it says 6341? Now, that fee is different for every market, but there's a little percentage. So, in this market, it cost you 41 cents in order to make this trade. Now, Alex, go down to go to the limit price there and put it down to 61 because this is what I want to show people. Okay? So, now we're saving two cents assuming the market comes back to us. Um, which again, a lot of these markets, if you're going to leave this trade out there and you're not trying to do it, like in football, you might want a certain price in the next like 30 seconds or so before a bunch of plays happen or a change of possession or something. But in something like the Fed rate, it doesn't matter. I want to get this filled. I don't care if it gets filled in 5 minutes or if it doesn't get filled to 4:00 today. I just want it to get filled at my price. So, I am comfortable at the price of 61. And when you do it, you know, you see there's still a little bit of a cost involved in there, but you just saved yourself about $2, which again doesn't sound like a lot of money, but if you're making 15 20 trades a day, which is what a lot of people who are active traders are doing, you know, over the course of a month, that's four or 500 trades. If you're saving yourself a couple hundred, a couple bucks on each trade, and you're making four or 500 trades, well, you just saved yourself $1,000 that month or got whatever you needed $1,000 cheaper or was able to have $1,000 more profit, however you want to look at it. So, that is as easy as it is, guys. Do not be a taker. You're going to pay higher fees and you're going to pay higher prices. Use the stuff that we have on the website. Use the ladders like Dane was talking about. You know, again, you don't want to play a guy at 50. You think he's going to go off and have a huge game. Hell, the ladder will show you here's where the difference is between the couchy price and the price that's on the, you know, the sports books. If you see that at 70, 80, 90 yards, it's cheaper to take them on Koshi than on the sports book. That's the whole idea of what we tried to build over here, guys. It's it it's nothing crazy. It's nothing there. These are all tools that I want to help you guys use to be better traders so you don't lose all your money. It's that simple.
