How FanDuel Predicts Works: A Beginner's Guide
FanDuel Predicts trades Yes/No contracts on real-world events. Price equals probability. Here's everything you need to start trading — from sign-up to your first settled position.
What Are Event Contracts?
A contract is a Yes/No position on a specific outcome. Every contract has a price between $0.01 and $0.99. That price is the market's implied probability.
Example:"Will the Lakers win tonight?" trades at $0.57. Buy YES for $0.57. Lakers win → you collect $1.00 (minus 2% fee = $0.98). Lakers lose → you lose $0.57. That's the ceiling on what you can lose.
No point spreads. No parlays. No house line baked in. Just market-priced probability and a 2% fee on winning payouts.
Step-by-Step: Your First Trade
Download & Sign Up
Search "FanDuel Predicts" in the App Store or Google Play. This is a separate app from FanDuel Sportsbook — download it specifically.
KYC takes about two minutes: name, date of birth, address, last four of SSN. Standard federal identity verification required for CFTC compliance. Same process as Kalshi or any regulated derivatives platform.
Deposit Funds
Debit card (instant) or ACH bank transfer (1–3 business days). No fees either way.
New accounts receive a $25 bonus automatically within 72 hours of completing KYC. No deposit required and no promo code needed.
Browse Markets
Four categories: Sports, Financial, Crypto, Economic Indicators. Each contract shows: current price (= implied probability), volume, and time to settlement. Filter by sport or asset type. "Popular" and "closing soon" are useful filters for finding active, liquid markets quickly.
Place Your First Trade
Find a market. Tap YES or NO. Enter a dollar amount. Confirm. Your position appears in your portfolio immediately at the price you paid.
Start with $5–$10 positions while learning how pricing moves. The $25 bonus is designed for exactly this — learn the platform before putting real capital in.
Manage Positions
Two options: hold to settlement or sell early. Hold: collect $1.00 if right (minus 2% fee), lose your position cost if wrong. Sell early: cash out at current market price, useful when your contract has moved in your favor and you want to lock in profit before resolution.
Understanding Payouts
The 2% fee applies to your payout — whether at settlement or early cash-out.
| Scenario | Position Cost | Gross Payout | You Receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| WIN — hold to settlement | $0.60 | $1.00 | $0.98 |
| WIN — hold to settlement | $0.25 | $1.00 | $0.98 |
| SELL EARLY at $0.80 | any | $0.80 | $0.784 |
| LOSS | your cost | $0.00 | $0.00 |
No fee on losses. You only pay when you receive a payout.
Tips for New Traders
- →Price equals probability. A contract at $0.30 = 30% market consensus. Your edge is having a better read.
- →Start small. Use the $25 bonus to learn how prices move before putting significant capital in.
- →Compare to Kalshi and Polymarket. If the same event is priced differently across platforms, you've found something worth analyzing.
- →Don't hold losing positions hoping for recovery. Sell early and redeploy capital into better setups.
