## Preseason: signal versus roster filler

The opening segment is the one most people get wrong. Preseason snaps are not a
small sample of the regular season — they are a *different* sample, taken mostly
from players who will not be on the roster in Week 1. Reading a starter's Week 1
outlook off a third-quarter drive against backups is how a market gets moved by
information that isn't information.
