When the price moves before your Kalshi order goes through, the contract you saw is gone. Switch the ticket to Limit, name your price and let the order rest. Here is how the ticket works.

**Quick answer.** When Kalshi says the price moved, **the offer you were looking at was taken or pulled before your order went through.** Nothing is wrong with your account. The fix is the order ticket's **Limit** tab: type the most you will pay per contract, keep the expiration on good 'til canceled, and let the order rest in the book until the market comes to your price.

## Why the price moves under you

A Kalshi contract trades on an order book. The price on the button is the best offer at the moment the page drew it, with a fixed number of contracts behind it. On a busy contract, a player prop an hour before kickoff for example, other traders take those contracts or the seller pulls the offer, and the next one up is more expensive. If your order reaches the book after that, the contract you saw isn't there at that price anymore, so the order doesn't fill at it.

That is why it happens most on:

- **Player props and game lines near kickoff**, when injury news moves prices fast;
- **Thin markets**, where only a few contracts sit at the best price;
- **Large orders**, which reach past the best offer into worse ones.

## The three order modes on Kalshi's ticket

Kalshi's order ticket (read October 14, 2026) has a dropdown with three modes:

| Mode | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| **Dollars** | Buys at the best available price, sized in dollars | Liquid contracts, small size |
| **Shares** | Buys at the best available price, sized in contracts; shows the average price before you confirm | Same, when you think in contracts |
| **Limit** | You set the price, pick an expiration, and can tick "Submit as resting order only" | Fast or thin markets, or any time the price keeps moving |

## The fix, step by step

1. Open the contract and switch the ticket's dropdown from **Dollars** or **Shares** to **Limit**.
2. Enter the **most you will pay per contract**. Work it out first: a contract is worth buying only below your own probability. The [EV calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/ev-calculator) does that math, and the [Kalshi fee calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/kalshi-fee-calculator) shows the fee at your price.
3. Leave **Expiration** on **Good 'til canceled** (or pick a time that suits you).
4. Tick **"Submit as resting order only"** if you want the order to wait in the book and never take the current offer.
5. Confirm. Your order now sits in the book at your price and fills if the market reaches it.

The trade-off: a limit order may never fill if the price runs away from you. That is the cost of not chasing a moving price.

## Size matters on player props

The best price on a player prop often has only a handful of contracts behind it. A large order walks past them into worse prices, and that is exactly when the "price moved" message shows up. Splitting the order, or placing a limit order for the full size, keeps you at your price.
