# Ella Langley Odds: 92¢ for VMA Song of the Summer, Then a Penny. Now She's the CMA Entertainer of the Year Favorite.

*By Dane Martinez, The 7 Oracles — The 7 Oracles at PredictionMarketsPicks*

Kalshi had Ella Langley trading at 92¢ to win Song of the Summer at the 2026 VMAs at 10:26 p.m. ET on Sept. 27. By 10:37 she was a penny, and Ariana Grande, last traded at 20¢, was at 99¢. Billboard's chart said Langley; MTV's fan vote said Grande. Here's the full tape, and what it means for her nine CMA nominations on Nov. 18, where Kalshi has her 92¢ bid / 96¢ ask for Entertainer of the Year.

At 10:26 p.m. ET on Sept. 27, Ella Langley's contract to win Song of the Summer at the MTV Video Music Awards was still trading at **92¢** on Kalshi. By 10:37 it was a penny. Ariana Grande's contract, last traded at 20¢ at 10:10, was at 99¢. Grande won the fan vote for "Hate That I Made You Love Me." Langley went home with Best Country for "Choosin' Texas" instead, her first VMA.

Three weeks later, the same exchange has Langley at **92¢ bid / 96¢ ask to win Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards on Nov. 18**, and she's the favorite in six of the seven CMA categories she's nominated in. Same artist, same kind of price. What changes is the thing that decided the VMA: who votes.

We made the chart case for Langley in a Short on Sept. 25, when the board was a three-way scrum in the 20s: Langley 19¢ bid / 21¢ ask, Grande 15¢ / 28¢, Taylor Swift 20¢ / 30¢.

The market came all the way around to that case. The ballot box didn't. Here's how it went, and why the difference matters for the next three markets on her board.

## The Kalshi tape: 21¢ to 92¢ to a penny

| Time (ET) | Langley YES | Grande YES | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sept. 25, 5:23 p.m. | 19¢ bid / 21¢ ask | 15¢ / 28¢ | Our Short posts |
| Sept. 27, 4:06 p.m. | 71¢ trade | 19¢ trade (4:14 p.m.) | Show day |
| 9:50–10:05 p.m. | Best bid 80–83¢ | — | Langley holds the 80s |
| 9:57 p.m. | 96¢, the high | — | |
| 10:10 p.m. | — | 20¢, last trade before the swing | |
| 10:26 p.m. | 92¢, last trade above 90¢ | — | |
| 10:30–10:37 p.m. | 3¢, then 1¢ | 99¢ | The market reprices to Grande |
| Settlement | $0 | $1 | Grande wins Song of the Summer |

*Kalshi public API, market KXVMA-SOS26, minute-by-minute trades and quotes. In the 10:37 minute alone, 3,445 Langley contracts changed hands at 1–2¢.*

Two things stand out. Kalshi's own show-day preview had Grande "a distant third" behind Langley and Swift. The crowd wasn't split on this one. It was wrong together. And this was a thin board: 42,894 contracts across all 16 Song of the Summer outcomes, against 2.46 million on Kalshi's full VMA slate. A price can travel 70 cents on a board that size on conviction alone.

## Two Songs of the Summer: Billboard's chart vs. MTV's fan vote

Here's what the 92¢ priced wrong. There were two Song of the Summer titles in 2026, and they measure different things.

**Billboard's is math.** The Songs of the Summer chart ranks cumulative Billboard Hot 100 performance from Memorial Day to Labor Day. "Choosin' Texas" finished No. 1, making Langley the first female country artist to earn Billboard's official title. Grande's song finished No. 4.

**MTV's is a fan vote.** The VMAs are decided by online fan voting, and Kalshi's contract settles on MTV's trophy, not Billboard's chart. The rule reads: "If Ella Langley wins Song of Summer at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, then the market resolves to Yes."

Charts measure listening. Fan votes measure turnout. Our Short's chart case was right about the first, and the market paid 92¢ for it. The ballots went to Grande's fans. Langley's fans did turn out for Best Country, where she was 93–95¢ all day and won. "Knowing its fan voted makes it so much more special," she wrote afterward.

The bigger money that night was on Langley in a different category. Her Song of the Year contract was the second-most-traded contract on Kalshi's entire VMA board, 69,690 contracts, behind only Grande's Video of the Year. She lost that one too, to BTS and "Swim." The BTS contract was 51¢ at 4:05 p.m., traded as low as 1¢ during the broadcast (177 contracts at 1¢ at 9:10 p.m.) and settled at $1. On a fan vote, the in-show tape is mostly noise.

## What the VMA tape teaches about award markets

Three rules we're taking into every awards market from here:

1. **Read the resolution line before the case.** Whoever hands out the trophy decides the contract. A chart, a jury, an academy and a fan vote are four different markets, even when the nominee list is the same.
2. **On a fan vote, the run-up is the trade.** A Langley YES bought around 21¢ on Sept. 25 was paying zero by 10:37 p.m. on show night. Earlier that same night, from 9:50 to 10:05, the best bid on that contract sat at 80–83¢. The [EV calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/ev-calculator) and the [Kalshi fee calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/kalshi-fee-calculator) will show you both versions of that trade in about a minute.
3. **Thin boards move on conviction.** Check the volume before you trust the price. BTS went 51¢ to 1¢ to $1 in one evening.

## CMA Awards 2026 odds: Ella Langley's nine nominations on Kalshi

The CMA Awards aren't a fan vote. The Country Music Association's professional members pick the winners, and that's the biggest difference between the market that went to zero in September and the one pricing Langley now.

She leads the 60th CMA Awards with nine nominations. Here's every one of them on Kalshi:

**Kalshi · CMA Awards 2026 · Ella Langley's nine nominations · Oct. 29, 2026, 12:57 p.m. ET**

| Name | Bid | Ask | Mid | 24h volume |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Entertainer of the Year | 92¢ | 96¢ | **94¢** | — |
| Song of the Year · Choosin’ Texas | 86¢ | 91¢ | **88.5¢** | — |
| Single of the Year · Choosin’ Texas | 78¢ | 79¢ | **78.5¢** | — |
| Female Vocalist of the Year | 77¢ | 79¢ | **78¢** | — |
| Album of the Year · Dandelion | 72¢ | 75¢ | **73.5¢** | — |
| Music Video of the Year · Choosin’ Texas | 52¢ | 57¢ | **54.5¢** | — |
| Musical Event of the Year · I Can’t Love You Anymore | 34¢ | 40¢ | **37¢** | — |
| Single of the Year · Be Her | 0¢ | 13¢ | **6.5¢** | — |
| Song of the Year · Be Her | 4¢ | 8¢ | **6¢** | — |

*Implied CMA wins (sum of mids): ≈5.2 of 7 · Categories where she’s the favorite: 6 of 7 · Show: Nov. 18, Nashville*

*Read from Kalshi's public API at 12:57 p.m. ET, Oct. 29, 2026. Nine nominations, seven categories: she's nominated twice for Single and twice for Song, so seven trophies is the ceiling. Prices move until the envelope opens; check the live board before trading.*

Add up the mids across her seven categories and the board implies about five trophies. The one real coin flip is Musical Event of the Year: "I Can't Love You Anymore" at 34¢ / 40¢ against "A Song To Sing" at 36¢ / 44¢. Entertainer is the headline: 92¢ / 96¢, with Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson, who's also hosting, all quoted in single digits.

Why this 92¢ isn't the VMA's 92¢: the case for Langley is exactly the kind of case an industry vote is built to weigh. A Hot 100 record, Billboard's Song of the Summer, a field-leading nine nominations. The VMA asked her fans to outvote Grande's. The CMA asks her peers whether she had the year.

And the reason to respect the price anyway: you just watched a contract sit in the 80s and 90s for hours and settle at zero in minutes. At 96¢ you're putting up 96 to make 4. Run your own number through the [probability converter](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/probability-converter) before you take a position, and size anything you do take with the [Kelly calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/kelly). Near the top of the board, the [fee](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/kalshi-fee-calculator) takes a bigger bite of a 4¢ upside than it looks like it should.

## Also on her board: Hot 100 No. 1 and the Grammys

**Hot 100, chart dated Nov. 7.** "Choosin' Texas" has 25 total weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, a record, past Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" at 22. It's on its seventh separate run at the top. On Oct. 29, Kalshi had it at 95¢ bid / 99¢ ask to be No. 1 again on the chart dated Nov. 7. That market closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Nov. 1.

**Grammys.** Nominations for the 69th Grammys come out Monday, Nov. 16, and the show is Feb. 7. Kalshi already lists winner markets, and Dandelion was 67¢ bid / 71¢ ask on Oct. 29 for Best Contemporary Country Album. That price has to cover the nomination and the win in one contract, before the nominations are even out. "Choosin' Texas" is listed for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song, but neither has a two-sided market yet.

## The number, if you want it

**Ella Langley to win CMA Entertainer of the Year: 92¢ bid / 96¢ ask.** Not a pick to hold blind. A price to check against your own number.

Our Short made the case at 21¢. The market paid 92¢ for it. The envelope paid zero. On Nov. 18, a different set of voters opens it.
