# Texans at 43¢ to Win the AFC South on Kalshi: The Division's Best Roster Is Priced Like a Coin Flip

*By Dane Martinez, The 7 Oracles — The 7 Oracles at PredictionMarketsPicks*

Kalshi has Houston at 43¢ to win the 2026 AFC South while the projection systems make the Texans the class of the AFC. Dane Martinez on the David Montgomery upgrade, a top-three defense nobody is pricing, and the Tank Dell–Jayden Higgins–Nico Collins receiver room — and why 43¢ is the wrong number.

Kalshi has the Houston Texans at **43¢** to win the AFC South. Jacksonville is right behind at **33¢**, Indianapolis at **18¢**, Tennessee at **10¢**.

Read that board again. The team the projection systems call the best in the entire AFC — not the division, the *conference* — is priced as a wobbly coin flip against a Jaguars roster that added nobody and a Colts team starting a quarterback off an Achilles rehab. That's not a market reading the rosters. That's a market still watching January film of C.J. Stroud getting his lunch taken in Foxborough.

I'll take the other side of a grudge. **Texans YES at 43¢** is my play, and the case is three-deep: the David Montgomery signing, a defense nobody wants to pay for, and a receiver room that finally has more than one adult in it.

## The Trade

**Market**: AFC South winner, 2026 season (Kalshi · `KXNFLAFCSOUTH-27-HOU`)
**Position**: Houston Texans — **YES**
**Entry**: 43¢ (bid 42 / ask 43)
**Implied probability**: ~43% (about 42% after you strip the vig from the four-name board)
**My read on true probability**: 52–58%
**Payoff at settle**: ~2.3x your entry
**Resolution**: End of the 2026 regular season

This is a division market, not a Super Bowl market — and that matters. You don't need Houston to fix the playoff version of Stroud. You don't need them to beat anybody in January. You need them to out-win three teams over 17 games, and the projections say they're not even in the same weight class as those three teams.

## The Setup

Houston went **12-5** last year with the best efficiency season in franchise history — while getting almost nothing from the offense. The defense finished **top-two in the league** for the second straight year and carried a unit that ranked bottom-third moving the ball. Then Stroud played the worst playoff game of his life against New England, the season ended ugly, and the market decided that's who the Texans are.

Here's what actually changed since that game, and every piece points the same direction:

**The offensive line got rebuilt — again, but with grown-ups this time.** Braden Smith at right tackle, Wyatt Teller at right guard, first-rounder Keylan Rutledge inside. Houston's interior run blocking was among the worst in football last year. These are three new starters aimed at exactly that wound.

**David Montgomery is the upgrade the backfield begged for.** The 7 Oracles said it in the Short and I'll put a number on it: Montgomery is the most efficient lead back Houston has rostered since the Arian Foster era. He's a physical, forward-falling goal-line hammer joining an offense that ranked **31st in red-zone efficiency** in 2025. That's not a luxury signing. That's a surgeon going straight at the tumor.

**The receiver room went from one man to three.** Nico Collins is the target hub and one of the best boundary receivers alive. Now Tank Dell is back from the knee injury — reports out of Houston ahead of camp are optimistic — and second-year man Jayden Higgins steps into a full-time role after flashing as a rookie. Stroud has never had three receivers who each win their own matchup. Defenses could roll coverage at Collins for two years. Try that now and Dell or Higgins is eating one-on-one all afternoon.

**The schedule flips from a meat grinder to a feather bed.** Houston faced the third-hardest slate in football in 2025. The 2026 schedule projects bottom-third in difficulty. That swing alone is worth real wins before you touch the roster.

---

## The Edge

- **The projection gap is enormous.** Our preseason win projections make Houston **one of the best teams in the AFC — north of 11 mean wins** — while Indianapolis and Jacksonville both land around nine and Tennessee sits down near six and a half. That's better than a two-win gap on the entire division. The sim has Houston **better than 80% to make the playoffs** and close to a **coin flip to win 12-plus games**. A team with that distribution is not a 43¢ division favorite. It's a 55¢-plus division favorite the market hasn't repriced yet.
- **The defense is the rare elite unit with LOW regression risk.** Most top defenses are one injury cluster or one turnover-luck season from falling apart. Houston's has finished top-three two straight years with average health and no turnover-luck inflation — the profile that repeats. The market pays up for elite offense and consistently under-prices elite defense in futures. That's the structural mispricing this whole trade lives in.
- **Every rival's story requires something to go right. Houston's doesn't.** Indianapolis needs Daniel Jones healthy off an Achilles AND last year's luck-driven hot start to be real, with half the defense's snaps replaced. Jacksonville won 13 games with the league's best fumble-recovery luck and added zero outside starters. Tennessee is a Year 2 quarterback project. Houston just needs its two-year identity — defense plus a now-supported Stroud — to show up.
- **The market is trading the memory, not the roster.** Two ugly playoff games are doing all the pricing work here. Our [Expected Value framework](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/articles/expected-value-prediction-markets) exists for exactly this spot: when the crowd anchors to the last thing it watched, the number stops matching the underlying team.

## Why 43¢ Is Cheap

Put my read at 55%. YES at 43¢ is worth 55¢ in expected value per contract — a **12¢ edge on a 43¢ price**, roughly a **28% expected return** on the capital, per our [EV Calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/ev-calculator).

And you don't need to buy my 55 to like the trade. The vig-stripped market says 42%. The projected win gap says Houston is closer to a 55–60% division winner. Split the difference anywhere and the ask is still below fair. The question isn't whether Houston is undervalued — it's by how much.

Run it yourself: [Expected Value Calculator](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/ev-calculator) for the edge, [Probability Converter](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/probability-converter) to turn 43¢ into a fair price, [Kelly](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/kelly) for the size, and the live [NFL Power Ratings](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/nfl-power-ratings) board for how our model stacks the division.

## The Downside (Be Honest About It)

Three real ways this loses, and one number that argues with me.

**Jacksonville is not a pushover — and our own board says so.** The honest wrinkle: our Gridiron power ratings actually rank the Jaguars' roster **6th in the league** right now, ahead of Houston at 9th. Power ratings measure talent today; the season projection measures the full-year win distribution, luck give-back included. I side with the projection — Jacksonville's 13 wins sat a full four wins above its underlying numbers, with league-best fumble luck and an offseason of nothing — but if Coen's year 2 is real, 33¢ is the side that beats me.

**Stroud's January could be a preview, not a blip.** If the playoff meltdown was the league catching up to him rather than one terrible night, the whole offense-bounce thesis sags. I think three receivers and a real run game answer that. I don't know it.

**The line is rentals and a rookie.** Smith and Teller are one-year veteran patches and Rutledge is a first-year interior lineman. If the rebuilt line doesn't gel, Houston is back to asking the defense to win 10 games alone — which, to be fair, it has done twice.

This is also a futures contract: your 43¢ is locked up until January. Price that in before you size it.

---

## Sizing It

[Kelly Criterion](https://predictionmarketspicks.com/tools/kelly): a 55% read at 43¢ puts full Kelly at about **21% of bankroll**. Do not do that on a futures market — the capital sits dead for five months and the read has honest error bars. **Quarter Kelly is the ceiling here: about 5% of bankroll.**

On a $1,000 bankroll that's roughly $52 — about 120 YES contracts at 43¢. Hits, and that $52 settles at ~$120. Misses, you eat the $52 in January knowing you had the math side of the board. The book is 42/43 with over 23,000 contracts traded and 18,000 open — sit at 42¢ with a limit order and let the market come to you.

---

## How to Take the Position

**Kalshi** — `KXNFLAFCSOUTH-27-HOU`, currently 43¢ YES. Deepest name on the AFC South board, with real open interest, so you can build the position with limit orders and exit before January if the thesis breaks early — say, a Stroud injury or an 0-3 September.

One more wrinkle for the patient: division futures reprice hard on September games. If you believe the thesis, the worst thing you can do is wait for Houston to look good in Week 1 — you'll be buying 55¢ instead of 43¢.

---

## The Bottom Line

The market watched two playoff games. The models watched two full seasons. The best defense in the conference is back with low regression risk, the offense finally got its line, its lead back, and its receiver depth in the same offseason, and the schedule turned soft — and Kalshi will still sell you the division at 43¢.

**YES on the Texans to win the AFC South at 43¢.** Quarter-Kelly sizing. Limit orders at 42. Hold into January.
